Eddie Murphy Takes "Beverly Hills Cop" to TV

More than 25 years after the first "Beverly Hills Cop" movie was released, Eddie Murphy has reached a deal to bring the story to television.

Along with "The Shield" creator, Shawn Ryan, the 51-year-old comedian secured a pilot production commitment from CBS for a show revolving around the son of Axel Foley, Murphy's slick police detective from the movie and its two sequels.

Aaron Foley would work to take down bad guys in Beverly Hills while dealing with the shadow of his legendary father. Eddie will reprise the role of Axel and may have a recurring spot if the show is picked up.

Rather than taking the project to the big screen, the "Coming to America" star told Rolling Stone, "none of the movie scripts [for a new sequel] were right."
