Demi Lovato Performs & Wins at the 2012 MTV VMAs Sep 7th 2012, 00:22 Getting the night's festivities underway, Demi Lovato was in the spotlight during the pre-show to the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards. Decked out in a sparkly black frock, the 20-year-old "X Factor" star helped get the ball rolling with a performance of her hit "Give Your Heart a Break" during the hour-long VMA pre-show outside the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Also receiving a MoonMan prior to showtime, Lovato took home "Best Video With a Message" honors. Briefly noting the win after her stage effort, Demi proudly told, "I can't even tell you what it means to me," while holding up her hardware for all to see.
