Box Office: "The Possession" Repeats as #1 During WEAK Weekend

Making for another miserable showing in Stateside theaters, "The Possession" is seeing its projected sub-$10 million take turn out to be enough to maintain the top spot at the box office over the weekend of September 7-9, 2012.

Garnering first place for the second weekend in a row, the Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Kyra Sedgwick starring Lionsgate horror picture's $2.8 million Friday puts it on pace for an estimated three day total of $9.1 million - which surprisingly outpaces the rest of the cinematic challengers.

Despite boasting an all-star cast including Shia LaBeouf, Jessica Chastain and Mia Wasikowska, "Lawless" continued its poor showing by turning out a $1.7 million Friday with projections pointing at a $5.7 million weekend.

Filling out the top five at the box office in forecasted totals are the newly released Bradley Cooper and Zoe Saldana starring romantic drama "The Words" ($5.0 million), followed by Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jason Statham's action caper "The Expendables 2" ($4.6 million) and the Tony Gilroy directed action/adventure film "The Bourne Legacy" ($3.8 million).
